Connect WordPress
Publish to your own WordPress site with an application password.
Connect a self-hosted WordPress site using its URL, username and an Application Password. If your site is hosted on WordPress.com, use the WordPress.com connection instead.
Before you start
You need an HTTPS website and a WordPress user who can create posts and upload media. For live delivery, that user also needs permission to publish posts. Use an Application Password made for outwrite.ai, not your normal sign-in password.
Create an application password
- Sign into your WordPress admin over HTTPS.
- Open Users → Profile (or Users → All Users, then the user you want to connect). Copy the Username shown on that profile, not the email address.
- Scroll to Application Passwords, enter outwrite.ai as the name and choose Add New Application Password.
- Copy the generated password while WordPress displays it. Keep it private.
If application passwords are unavailable, check the WordPress version, HTTPS configuration, user permissions and any security plugin restrictions.
Add the connection
- In outwrite.ai, open Plan → Schedule and publishing → Connect or manage a website → WordPress, or choose WordPress during onboarding.
- Enter Site URL, such as
https://example.com. Use the WordPress installation's address, without/wp-adminor a post URL. - Enter the Username and Application Password you copied. Add an optional Site Name so the destination is easy to recognize.
- Choose Connect website. The site appears under Connected sites.
- Choose Test connection to verify access. This check does not publish an article.
Choose publishing behavior
The WordPress user also needs permission to upload media. Featured images are uploaded to the site's media library and attached to the post, with alt text. outwrite.ai checks the saved image before confirming delivery. If a media upload fails, the article is not sent without it; check the media permissions before retrying.
Open Plan → Schedule and publishing, select the WordPress destination and choose Draft or Publish. Where offered, choose author, category and tag settings for that destination.
Start with Draft. Deliver one reviewed article and inspect headings, tables, links and any theme-specific formatting in WordPress.
Check the result
A confirmed CMS draft is different from a verified public post. Use the receipt and destination link in outwrite.ai, then inspect the post on your site.
If WordPress accepted the post but the response was lost, do not immediately send it again. Reconcile the saved delivery first to avoid a duplicate.
Common connection issues
A 401 or 403 usually points to credentials, permissions or a blocked REST API. Check application-password access and security rules. A wrong base URL or REST API redirect can also prevent a connection.
Revoke the application password in WordPress if you no longer want outwrite.ai to access the site, and remove the connection in outwrite.ai.
